Subject: Help! Start Menu Hangups in Windows XP Pro

The folders and shortcuts in my classic start menu
suddenly stopped "dragging and dropping" and now refuse to
be manipulated. For example, trying to move a folder
containing shortcuts to a game to a "Game Gallery" Folder
results in all shortcuts disappearing and an empty folder
that refuses to be deleted even in the "Documents and
Settings/All Users/Start Menu" view in Windows Explorer.
This function used to work fine until yesterday -- how I'm
suddenly collecting a slew of empty folders and dead
shortcuts in my Start Menu that cannot be accessed or
deleted.
I've reinstalled Windows XP, Checkdisked, updated, run
Virus and Trojan scans, defragged and chkdsked again --
and it still locks up. Help, anybody, please!
