View Full Version : Memory Question

Hi,

I have a question about memory.I'm running a 900 MB AMD
Duron processor on an ECS K7S5A PRO mother board with 256
MB SDRAM, and I want to put in more memory.Okay, here's
my question, what determines if I can use PC100 or PC133
memory? Is it what the boaard will support, or the front
side bus of the processor?

Thanks in advance,

Darin

That is determined by the mother board. See the documentation for it or go
to the Mfr's web-site and check it out.

Not quite, it is determined by the processor in use. If you have a board that we'll say supports Intel Celerons through the P3, the
motherboard supports both types of RAM, if your running a Celeron 500 you can use PC100 or PC133, but If your running a P3 800 with
a 133Mhz FSB you must use PC133 RAM.

Not quite.Motherboards do various things to allow other types of memory. =
One needs to read the manual. This is especiually true of taiwanese (I =
should say Republic Of China to prevent a war I suppose) motherboards.

Does your statement apply in this case? The documentation for my SIS MB
specifies what I can use.

Darin,

My last post was directed at David B. I should have put his name at the top
of my post. I don't have any answer except what I already offered.

Depends on your motherboard.

No matter how many times you ask the question, the answer will always be the
same, check your motherboard documentation as there is no set answer that is
universally correct.
