I just got a new monitor and was messing with the display
settings. In doing this, I changed the size of the icons
in the startup area (hope I am describing that correctly),
basically the mouse, volume, clipboard, etc. icons in the
lower right corner. The look distorted and fuzzy. How do
I restore them to their default size? Thanks.

Right-click on a blank area of the desktop and select Properties. On the
Themes tab, reset your theme to Windows XP.

[ "the lower right corner" = the "Notification Area" ]

First download this
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 4. Repairs the Icon View

Then, in TweakUI (for XP) - navigate to...
- Repair
- Repair Icons
- [Repair Now]

If TweakUI is not installed on your system, then download it from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Note: V2.10.0.0 needs Windows XP SP 1

If you do not have SP1, the earlier version of TweakUI can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
