I have been trying to delete a programme called Mailcleaner by using the
delete/remove facility in xp.
To all intent it has been removed but on a reboot it reappears. There are
some files left that will not be deleted or removed to the Recycle Bin.Any
suggestions on how to permanently remove these remaining files.

Goto Start>>Run>>Type "regedit" Search through the registry for
"Mailcleaner" and delete JUST the keys that the search finds.

Open start up menu, type
msconfig
go to Startup Tab
and uncheck the programs you don't want it
Then Look into the location column, find it whole directory and then you can
delete it, but you have to restart first because once it has been running so
you can't delete. If you uncheck it, and next time you start up, it's not
running so you can delete.
Hope this help.

Thankyou both, I found msconfig worked best for me.
The learning process never stops.
