View Full Version : how do I prevent the c:\windows\system32 folder from opening

All of a sudden, out of the blue, when I bootup, the
system32 folder appears on my desktop, as if I had
intnetionally opened it with windows explorer.

This happened to me pnce before (about 4 months ago) and
I was unable to remember any action I did to make it
happen.

The last time I think I got rid of it by using system
restore, which I will also do this time. But i would like
to understand why it happened, and where in the startup
sequence I need to go to actually fix the problem.

Can anyone give me a clue why this is happening?

In Windows Explorer, folder options, view, scroll down and see if "Restore previously
folder windows at logon" is ticked.

I looked there and that blocked is unchecked.
Besides, I had never opened that folder.

Rick
I looked at that page and it addresses the problem I have
However as I look at the registry, I can not find
anything that I recognize that must be fixed, adn I am
afraid to experiment.

Hi Loren,

Click on the key listed in the article, click file/export and save a copy to
the desktop (or wherever you please). Send it to me via email (the address
used here is legitimate), and I'll take a look.
