SMWDM.SYS seems to be causing trouble. I estart and learn
that WinXP has receovered from a serious error.

Where can I find an updated smwdm.sys file?

The file itself may not be the problem.

To troubleshoot this, go to Start/Run, type eventvwr.msc and press OK.
Click on the Applications and System menu items and look for any Red X error
messages that correspond to the time the freeze ups occured. Double click
the error message to see the details. On the details dialog box, there is a
small icon that looks like 2 text pages. Click this icon to copy the error
and paste it in a reply here.

These errors do not seem to be associated with the original problem. The
True Vector Service is a component of the Zone Alarm firewall program.

The SMWDM.SYS appears to be a driver file associated with a SoundMax sound
card. If you have recently updated the driver for this device, you might
want to reinstall the driver or rollback to the previous driver.

Go to Start/Run and type: msinfo32 and press OK. Expand the Components
folder and click on Problem Devices. Are there any components detailed
there? If so, copy the information and post it back here.

We also need to more information from the Blue Screen error the next time it
occurs. The information should appear similar to the following:

"STOP: 0x000000XX (0XXXXXXXX, 0xXXXXXXXX, 0xXXXXXXXX, 0xXXXXXXXX)
<file name> - Address xxxxxxxx base at xxxxxxxx, Datestamp xxxxxxxx"

Hi,

Here's what I get:

Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (IntelliPoint)
ACPI\PNP0F03\4&3A2C8C4B&0 This device is
not present, is not working properly, or does not have
all its drivers installed.

My mouse is connected to USB, not PS/2?

Should I reinstall the mouse or remove a PS/2 driver
somewhere?

Thanks.
