Hi all

System spec is as follows:

Athlon 1200
512MB RAM
Gigabyte GA7VKML Motherboard
Dual Booting 98 and XP Home
DVDROM & CDR-RW
HDD x 2

Problem 1. On shutdown from XP the PC goes through its normal procedure,
saving setting etc etc then goes black as it should, only then it reboots.
In 98 the PC shuts down normally and powers off. Any ideas why this would
happen in XP and not in 98??

I have looked into possible solutions to no avail.

I was wondering if reinstalling XP (as a repair
Windows) over the existing XP install could solve the problem.

XP is on my D drive and 98 on the C drive.

Any thoughts?

Matty

Yeah, it's crashing at the end of the shutdown process (probably a dud
driver someplace) and you have 'restart after crash' turned on in my
computer, properties, advanced, startup & recovery.

Turn off (untick the 'automatic restart' box and you'll get a chance to
marvel over the appropriate blue screen 'suicide note', which will then
lead you/us to a fix (usually. 8>.)

You might already have something useful in the event logs (check!), but
possibly not, since the event log system may have already shut down
before the problem occurs.
