Larry,
The program should add itself to and create all necessary sub-keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail]
Once you set the program as default [using IE Options], the mailto =
handlers are changed to reflect the value of your custom mail client.
