PLEASE HELP!

I had a power outage while loading office and so I had to
cancel (had a UPS Backup System) and shutdown.

When I tried to reboot, I got an error
lsass.exe
Object Name Not Found.
with an OK click box. This just restarts the computer.
I've tried safe mode, last known working mode and get the
same error.

Any suggestions?

Unfortuantely, your UPS may not have saved the day. Use Google groups,
but the following is representative:

I can't do a restoration. I can't get into Windows in
Safe mode or any mode without the error. I try to do last
known good configuration and it does the same thing.
Ughhh.

I can't even do a restore install because I don't have the
admin password (any suggestions of what it could be? is
there an auto password that I may not have changed?)

yes,

reinstall XP with the cd by booting on it, select, after pressing F8 (eula)
to install new copy of windows, leave hardrives configured the way they are
and install on the drive where your xp is now, at the moment to install, he
will search for an installation of windows, will find it and ask if you
wanna install new one or repair, press R to repair and let it go. Do not
select to repair befor you read the Eula and have pressed F8 since then you
enter the recovery console and this is only to move files around and replace
some that are on a floppy or so.
When system files are replaced and this replacement occured and has been
interupted with Office install, you can only repair to set the correct
system files in place again. during this repair, windows will delete all
system files and reinstall them all. The lsass is the local security service
manager system and if the security services cannot start the OS will not
start eather since unable to control user and passwords to open a session.
This system is accessed by office for the fast session user switching.

regards

There are many infectors now that target LSASS.EXE...

1) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
2) Using your AV software, perform a Full Scan of your platform and clean/delete any
infectors found
3) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform
4) Please report back your results

Dave
