closed word document and it ended up closing in some type
of computer language. Can I convert back to a word
document that I can read?

I guess you are saying that you did a File/Save as... in some other
format. Any format of document that Word can write, it can read.
Perhaps the document is corrupted. If it is, unless you had autosave on,
you may be out of luck to read it back.

Seek more guidance on the newsgroups specific to Word.

Check your settings in Word to be sure that you aren't displaying the
formatting characters.
