I have XP-Pro installed with SP1 and all the updates to date except for 811493.
P4 1.3Gb 512Mb ram.
During the boot up process, the full desktop appears and most of the start-up
programs in the systray. The the cursor/ only in the taskbar area, stays in the
hourglass mode for about 90 seconds and during that time the rest of the
start-up is in limbo. At the same time the A floppy drive seeks access
intermittently. This seeking also takes place during times such as installing
the downloaded updates. Once the 90 or so seconds have passed, all seems to be
well.
I went to msconfig, where it tells me that there is an optional boot.ini, and
asks if I want to remove an extra boot line called Xp Home. When I change my
start-up to normal boot-up and restart, the advisory screen tell me that I have
changed the selection and it starts up but reverts to the selective start up
again.
Any help would be appreciated....thanks
