every time I boot my computer the display color settings
go to low bit color. I reset it to highest and everthing
works fine. If I change users and come back to the main
user (myself) the color goes to low bit again. Any
ideas? I am in an 800x600 resolution.

You might try reinstalling your video card drivers.

Are you clicking Apply before OK?

Yes, I'm clicking apply. I should also say that during
boot up the display is in high color until McAfee starts
up then the screen goes mometarily blank then comes back
in low color. McAfee couldn't give me an answer as to
whether it is their software to blame.

Temporarily disable McAfee from starting, This will confirm if that program
is the cause.
