I have set my power mgmt to shut the computer down after
30 minutes of non-use. It doesn't. I have manually set
it to hibernate, but my ipaq beeps and wakes up the
computer. Is there some way to run a diagnostic or is
there a patch that can repair this? My computer has been
running for over 3 months now. This can't be good.

The Ipaq beeps and wakes up the computer because you likely have activesynch
set to autosynch at intervals on its own. You might want to check those
properties to see if that's the case and perhaps set them to manual since
its function will continue to wake up the computer.

Generally, there is no harm to a computer running it 24/7 though its always
best to turn off the monitor if you are going to leave the system unattended
for awhile, that helps save the monitor. Are you able to manually turn off
the computer?

Is this a desktop or a laptop? On my desktop I don't have the ability to
auto-shutdown or hibernate the system but it does seem logical a laptop
would have it. That said, when such features do not function, it is usually
caused by some application or device that is preventing it from functioning.
You might want to take a look at the following Knowledge Base Article:

1. Thanks for the referral to the link, but it was
garbage. No useful information.
2. Using windows XP desktop in a Micron Mellennia Athlon
1000MHZ Thunderbird, the monitor is a Compaq Presario
Digital Screen. Not LCD.
3. The memory is 256 DDR and a 40.55 GB EIDE Hard drive.
4. XP's Power Mgmt has a bug of some sort. This was all
in working order a few months ago. The Ipaq is set to
auto synch continuously as it always has been.
5. I can turn the computer on and off from the start icon
in my tray... I can send it into hibernate from there as
well.
6. This power mgmt issue was a common topic here about 6
months ago but it was not an issue then for me. Does
anyone remember anything about how it gets rectified?

Okay, what changes have you made in this period? Have you added any
updates, any new devices or device drivers. Any or all such things can
interfere with power management features and prevent them from working
properly.
