View Full Version : XP slow to shut down

Could anyone tell me how long it usually takes to close down XP. When I
first installed XP it used to take around 10 seconds to shut down and switch
off, but now it takes a good 30 seconds and I was just wondering if there is
anything I could do to speed things up a little.

Any advice gladly received.

Here is the Microsoft Trouble Shooting link:

Here is an easy solution:

Assuming your XP system is on the C drive, if not change the below to
ID the proper drive.

Right click in a blank area of your screen, and check create a short
cut.

When you get to the Target and Start In lines, type in the following:

Target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 01
(Note the spaces)

Start In: C:\WINDOWS\system32

You can change the appearance of the Icon, just right click it,
Properties, Change Icon.

Pick out one you like.

Clicking this Icon will shut your system down, it will not give you
the option to Restart.
