Hello everybody,
We have 3 802.11b enabled laptops. All of them are manufactured by Toshiba.
We just purchased a new Toshiba (the third laptop) and it came with a
centrino wireless network card built in. We had an old SMC Access Point at
our house, and whenever the centrino laptop would be enabled and have its
antenna on, it would "lock up" the access point and we both would lose all
wireless connection. We purchased a new Linksys AP / Router combo and now
all the laptops can connect and get assigned IPs, but the centrino will get
knocked off and the "one or many wireless networks are available" bubble
message appears. When we try to click on connect, it doesn't and the same
box keeps popping up. Our AP does NOT have WEP encryption enabled. We have
upgraded our Linksys firmware, downloaded new Intel wi-fi driver, and talked
with toshiba tech support. Sometimes for no reason, it will connect only to
be knocked off again. Its simply bazaar. HELP!!!!

Thanks.

Uninstall update 815485. You really should consider the risks of not using
encryption.

Ok, 815485 has been removed on all of our machines. We have even tried
128-bit WEP encryption, but still get disconnected. Any more ideas?

Our Equipment:
(L) Toshiba 2.4GHZ, 512MB, Toshiba MiniPCI WIFI Card.

(L) Toshiba 700MHZ, 512MB, Toshiba MiniPCI WIFI Card.

(L) Toshiba 1.4GHZ, 512MB, Intel 2100 MiniPCI WIFI.

(D) Dell 1.4GHZ, 256MB, 3Com Intergrated LAN.

UNcheck 802.1x authentication:

1.. Right-click the wireless connection, and then click Properties.
2.. Click the Wireless Networks tab.
3.. Select the network name in the Preferred networks window, and then
click Properties.
4.. Select the Authentication tab.
5.. Make sure that the check box for authentication is not selected.

Barb,

We did already uncheck our 802.1x auth. We solved the problem by switching
from a Linksys Router / AP to a Netgear Router / AP. It solved all of our
problems. Thanks again for all your help!
