I have two hard drives, on my second, I have a list of
files in two seperate folders. I opened the properties
box on the drive and clicked "compress" then apply, it
took for ever for the attributes to be applied, several
weeks ago I unchecked the compress files and hit apply,
it took several minutes for the "applying attributes to
files" to show up, then the system crashed, now that I am
wanting to delete them no luck, it states Can not
delete ..... file: access denied make sure the disk
is not full or write-protected and that file is not in use

I have made sure that the file is not in use, that it is
not a system file, and that the drive is only half full.
Any guesses? Your help is appreciated

Thanks

After the system "crashed", did you reinstall XP? If so, See Help and
Support and search for "take ownership"

No, attempted restart, everything seemed to work, just the
files were locked.

Take ownwership is the best method. I agree.

You can also use the calcs.exe command line and reset the permissions on
that inaccesssible folder.

The following comand line paramenter will change the ACLs of all files and
directories on drive C to allow full control for the Administrators local
group:
eg..
cacls c:\ /t /e /g Administrators:f

Sincerely,
Ramesh
