Last night I updated my computer to windows XP Pro, and I
loved it! But as soon as I went to connect to AOL it had
to search for a modem, and it didnt find anything?? So
using past computer expirence I went to the Device Manager
and saw that in fact I did have a modem, but I did notice
that after upgrading to XP PRO that my modems name had
tottally changed, so I tried AOL again and went to select
my modem myself from a list and it wasnt on the list?? Can
you please help me out. Also before when I was on windows
98 my modem name was MR MODEM, and after upgrading to XP
PRO it changed to Lucinet somthing?? can you please help
me I love XP and I need to use the internet, but I
cant.....

XP is probably recognizing your modem as a generic
Lucent Win Modem and only has a generic driver for it,
that just isn't working.

You could try downloading a new modem driver from:

http://www.modemsite.com/56k/ltwin7.asp

http://www.agere.com/support/client/modem_driver2.html

Did the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor report say anything
about your modem such as listing it under:

"Hardware that may need additional files"

If you ran the Upgrade Advisor report and saved it you
should be able to find it by searching for upgrade.txt or upgrade.htm

In the end, you may end up having to get a new modem.
Sorry but this is what can happen when you upgrade to a new OS.
Old hardware may just not have functional updated drivers available.
I would suggest replacing that win modem with a hardware modem
that is XP ready.
