transfering files

I have a new systemax computer. I want to transfer all
of my files from my Dell 8100 to my new computer. I am
having trouble transfering files or burning files to cd
to load into my new computer. I have purchased a usb
transfer cable. I followed instructions to no avail.

It's pretty easy once you get the two computers hooked up. This seems to be
the problem. What instructions have you followed to no avail connecting
these computers?
