I have a new hp pavilion 522c computer. It came with pre-
installed xp home edition and programs. (No disks) This
has a cd rom -writer and a dvd rom. The program installed
for cd burning is RecordNow. It also has a DLA program for
cd burning of which I can make no sense of to add to my
burning program.(anyone have this and know what to do
with) I have made copies of my picture file to send to my
daughter.( Have used both record now just as installed and
also with DLA installed with no go on either) She is using
windows 98 and she can't open to see pictures but it shows
files and size but will not open for her to see them. I am
no computer whiz and wanted new machine with these
features to be able to do this option. Do I have to buy
new software (like easyCD Creator) in order for her to see
this cd? She can see and open any disk made off of windows
Me,98,95 etc but none from my windows xp. I have had
nothing but problems with xp and have spent hours serching
for help on this matter and others, plus calls to Hp help
center. I have also spent many hard earned dollars
replacing all programs and hardware to run on xp . With
the amount have spent so far more dollars for program that
will work will be worth no more stress!!!If anyone can
help would appreciate it and many thanks ahead of time.
Just want to enjoy this new pc like I did windows 98!!

It really depends on how you are formating your CDs. I am not familar with
Record Now but many CD burning programs have 2 options of burning. Using a
packet burning program such as Direct CD which uses a differnet format and
is often incompatible between computers and a data burning program similar
to what is in the CD creator portion of the software. (This is usually
compatible between computer).
You can usually tell if you are using a packet burning program because when
you push the button on the CD burner to retreive the CD it may take several
seconds before ejecting while it preps the disk for release.

Record Now is like the inbuilt burning in XP, or Nero, or Easy CD
creator - it writes 'batches' of files to a CD (usually a CD-R) as 'ISO
Sessions'. This needs no formatting at all in advance - it is done as
part of the burning process. If done to a CD-RW you can only erase the
disk as a whole.

DLA is a 'packet writing' program (and rather a good one) like Direct CD
or InCD: It does not appear, once a drive is enabled for it )in its My
Computer - r-click - Properties on the DLA page). But if you put a
blank CD in the drive you can then format it, and then use it as if it
were a big floppy or small slow hard disk; dragging files to it in My
Computer or Explorer, so that they copy immediately (as opposed to the
XP burning where they are just stashed on hard disk until you burn the
whole batch later).. Usually used with CD-RW so you can then erase or
update individual files

An older system, like Win98, should be able to read the disks made by
RecordNow directly, just like commercial pressed ones (the format is the
same). Ones made with DLA would need either that, or a 'UDF reader'
program; eg 'EasyWrite reader', free from www.nero.com
