View Full Version : Something hitting the floppy during welcome screen

Peter
April 3rd 03, 12:54 PM
Something is hitting my floppy drive TWICE during startup plus I get a
welcome screen and then another welcome screen and all this takes about 20
seconds.

Whatever it is is hitting the floopy is doing it during both welcome
screens. The first welcome screen is the regular one and the second is
regular but about a sixth of the screen beneath it is black.

Its not AVG because it does it when its not installed.

Its not anything in the startup because it does it when all startups are
disabled and on a safe mode startup.

Its not anything that might have been written to floppy because I don't use
the floppy drive for anything.

Other kind suggestions have been to delete the floppy driver and to put a
floppy with something on it in the drive but sadly neither worked

Its really annoying but not life threatening :)

I sure would like to sort it out though so any help would be very welcome

Thanks

Peter

Hi

Have you checked your system for any viruses using the latest updates =
for your AV program and checked for any Spyware using Ad-Aware =
www.lavasoft.de Also you could try clearing Start>Settings>Taskbar and =
Start Menu>Start Menu>Customise...>Clear - although this will 'clear' =
all recently accessed web sites as well.

Hi Peter

If you have tried 'Clear' as well, I'm not sure what else could be =
causing your problem. Hopefully one the new XP MVPs will be able to =
help you out. Sorry not to be of more help.

No - any help is welcome. I did Start>Settings>Taskbar - clear but can't
find Start Menu>Start Menu>Customise...>Clear - - no "Clear" button. I
could delete everything on the list but not sure what that would acheive.

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter

It is Start button then Settings>Taskbar and Start Menu - start Menu =
tab, Customise button and then the Clear button. This will only work if =
you are the XP Classic mode. If you are not in 'Classic' mode you can =
change to it by right clicking on the Start button, selecting Properties =
and enabling the Classic start menu - you can always change back =
afterwards. However, I'm sure that some of the newer XP MVPs have got =
better remedies than I have.

Do you have "Floppy Seek" enabled in BIOS?..
