Win XP Home - Looking for the file that activation puts on hard drive.

I installed Win XP Home on to computer but it did not format the
drive as requested and now there are 2 of everything. tried to delete
the extra directories and now XP wont start, I can access the drive
from a dos disk to find the file if I knew its name, I could then
format and reinstall XP OEM without having to re activating it twice
in the one night.

Each time you format your drive and reinstall XP, you are required
to activate it. You cannot save any file that will enable you to =
prevent
activation on a clean installation.

I can't remember the filename but actually there is, as long as there has
been no hardware changes.

Look in Windows\system32 for a file named WPA.DBL, also WPA.BAK.
If you make no changes to your system but just want to re-install XP, copy
these files to a floppy so you can copy them back into Windows\system32.
