I'm not great with computers so could you explain in simpler terms.

Screensavers are usually SCR files. The name in the Desktop properties
dialog will match the file name. They are usually located in the
Windows\System32 folder, but can be located in Windows as well.
Additionally, you may find some SCR files launch EXE files.

Sometimes you'd never know we were all new at one point
would you?
If you are wanting to remove one, go to Start >Settings
>Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs. Look for the one you
want to remove, highlight it by clicking on it and click
the Add/Remove button. If you are simply looking around,
>My Computer >RIGHT click >"C:"\drive >Explore. If you
don't get a list of folders on the left, click "Folders"
at the top. Find and click "Windows" near the bottom of
the list, now click System 32. They will be .scr files. If
you can't find them click Search at the top, activate
the "Search Hidden Files and Folders" and type in .scr.
Hope this helps.

Hi

I'm sorry, as Doug has posted - the screensavers - with the .scr =
extension - are normally in your Windows\System32 folder. %systemroot% =
refers to the Windows folder whichever hard disk/partition that your =
Windows folder might installed onto - normally C:\Windows. Sorry for =
any confusion.

I saw on an XP site somewhere that screensavers for XP MUST be named
SSwhatever, along with being in the system32 folde. I am not on my XP
machine at the moment, but I assume this is why older ones don't necessarily
work? Makes sense :)

On a related note, I installed a freeware screensaver the other day (from an
executable), and it shows up in the SS config box just fine, I can set
properties, etc etc, but when I exit the settings box, it reverts back to
"none". Any thoughts on this one?

TIA!

Follow up.

I found a site that discussed the "none" error, and I did the reg changes
that were supposed to stop this from happening. However, they did NOT work.
I'm STILL getting "none" as the screensaver as soon as I exit the settings
box. Anyone have any suggestions??
