Greetings --

Whenever WinXP is installed on a computer, two user accounts are
automatically created: Administrator and Guest. By default, the Guest
account is disabled, and isn't pertinent now, in any case. During the
installation, WinXP Pro will ask the installer to designate the
Administrator's password, but WinXP Home will not do so. By default,
the Administrator's password is blank.

Once any additional user accounts have been created, the
Administrator account will no longer be displayed on the Welcome
Screen. This is a default security feature that may, or may not, be
needed in your specific situation. By design, the only way to log
into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to reboot into Safe
Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the Welcome
Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.

To start in Safe Mode, reboot the computer and press <F8> after
the BIOS is loaded and just before WinXP starts loading. The timing
can be a bit tricky on some systems, so you may need to make several
attempts. One trick that sometimes helps is to press <F8> repeatedly,
about once per second, while the PC is booting.
