When I insert the XP Pro install CD autorun starts and I
get the blue setup screen. It begins to load the kernel
and drivers. When it gets to "Setup is now starting
Windows", nothing happens. CD winds down and harddrive
light stops. It just sits there. I cannot get to Recovery
console or New install. I am trying to install a fresh
copy over an old copy of XP Pro This all started when I
pulled my computer out of storage. The boot was interupted
with the "Safe mode, Last known good, etc. menu. XP would
not start with either of the several options, not even
debugging mode. On each occassion, the intro screen
appeared with the "scanner bar" grapic. Then all of a
sudden the graphic would stop moving from side to side,
(lock up) and the harddrive goes quiet. I have also tried
the six boot disks from floppies. Everything is fine until
the 6th disk. It asks to "please wait" forever....

Open the case of the computer and check all the seatings. Make sure all
cables and cards are properly seated and have a clean connection to the
motherboard. Make sure all power connections are nice and snug. Probably
would be a good idea to give the inside of the case a good cleaning while
you're in there, removing the dust that inevitably builds up.
