View Full Version : Welcome Screen Freezes

Hello All,
Upgraded to XP about a month ago and all was well until recently. Every once
in a while, the system will freeze up on the Welcome Screen. If I hit
*ctrl-alt-delete* 3 times (no...not 2 <G>) it will proceed but the *Task
Manager* pops-up showing system resources. As I said, this only occurs
sporadically. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Ctrl+Alt+Del 2 times = logon
Ctrl+Alt+Del one more time = Task Manager.
It sounds like the computer is doing what you are telling it to.
These few times that the logon process hangs a bit (causing you to try
the Ctrl+Alt+Del repititions), can you pinpoint anything that they share
in common? Example:
-attaching a device you don't normally use
-restarting after a program installation or update
-scheduled tasks are due that day or overdue
-if on a home network, one of the systems on when it's normally off or
vice versa
Whenever my system gets a little slow at startup, I know it's time to
run chkdsk and defrag. Sometimes I have to repeat it a few days in a row
before startup is backup to speed (I don't have that many startup
programs - basic essentials that I use everyday).
