View Full Version : 2 questions about displays

I've got 2 questions.

1. Display Resolution settings between profiles. I prefer 1024X768 on my
pc, but my husband prefers 800 X 600. We've got XP Pro and each have our
own login, but when I switch the display resolution in his profile to 800x,
then log off and log in as myself for my profile - the 800x carries through.
Is there any way to get that display to stick to the profile? Or are we
SOL.

2. I may not get the answer here. We recently got a laptop (toshiba,
Sat. Pro - 2401-S205) and a 19" lcd (samsung syncmaster 171mp). Laptop has
the NVidia GeForce 4 video adaptor setup for multiple monitors. You can
toggle using fn-f5 to go between lcd, lcd/crt, crt, lcd/tv, tv. The
problem is, when we are at home, and hooked up to the monitor, sometime the
toggle to switch between lcd/crt will not work. Many times if the system
is set to CRT, and then we leave, the laptop hybernates, and when we return
and wake the laptop, there is no display on either device. I have to
blindly toggle back to LCD only to get the display on the laptop to work.
Reboots on the machine, sometimes will restore the correct display,
sometimes it wont. Also, once the display is up on one device or the
other, the toggle to switch between will not work. (it just goes to the
setting it is currently stuck on).

This setup worked for the first few weeks we've had the system. Then
started acting like this a few days ago. (coincidentally, about the same
time that the hubby started asking to go to 800x resolution).

Since it was a new machine, I have no problems with a restore. First I
went through the Toshiba/XP built in troubleshooting tool. No help there,
Then I tried deleting and reinstalling the video driver. Then i resorted to
a restore from factory cd. But, we are still getting the problem. My
next step will be the laborous task of calling toshiba tech support - and
possibly going weeks/months without the PC if i have to send it back for
repair.

Any advice would be appreciated.

For the first issue, see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Keep User
Display Settings.

For the second issue, Toshiba support may be your best option.
