Hello All

I have had the following RAM on my XP Pro system for ages (Report from
AIDA) Mother board EPOX 85KA2+

Giveing me a total of 256Mb, as I am running XP pro (and it was my
birthday) I purchased another 512Mb of RAM.

When I addeed it to the empty bank, the PC still shows it as haveing
256Mb or RAM, even though AIDA reports it as being there as follows

[ 64MX64U-26B ]

Memory Module Properties:
Module Name 64MX64U-26B
Serial Number 622397698
Module Size 512 MB (2 rows, 4 banks)
Module Type Unbuffered
Memory Type DDR SDRAM
Memory Speed PC2100 (133 MHz)
Module Width 64 bit
Module Voltage SSTL 2.5
Error Detection Method None
Refresh Rate Reduced (7.8 us), Self-Refresh
Highest CAS Latency 2.5 (7.5 ns @ 133 MHz)
2nd Highest CAS Latency 2.0 (10.0 ns @ 100 MHz)

Memory Module Features:
Early RAS# Precharge Not Supported
Auto-Precharge Not Supported
Precharge All Not Supported
Write1/Read Burst Not Supported
Buffered Address/Control Inputs Not Supported
Registered Address/Control Inputs Not Supported
On-Card PLL (Clock) Not Supported
Buffered DQMB Inputs Not Supported
Registered DQMB Inputs Not Supported
Differential Clock Input Supported
Redundant Row Address Not Supported

If I remove the 2 128Mb's the system refuses to start, If I leave just
1 128Mb and the 512, it still reports as heveing 256Mb of RAM!!

I'm very confused, and am wondering if the RAM is faulty, or I just
need to set something up properly.

Any help greatfully received

Hi Richard,

Sounds like the new ram is either incompatible with the existing ram (or
motherboard) or you got some bad sticks. Try booting with just the new ram
installed in the first slot. If it doesn't boot, then the ram is either bad
or incompatible with your motherboard. If it does boot, then install the old
sticks in the remaining slots, see if it is now all recognized. If not, then
the sitck are not compatible.
