My nephew was visiting and unbeknown to me surfed through
some porn sites. Now I'm getting a lot of porn email.
I'm using spam cop which is great but it expires soon.
Is paying for a filter program the only way to get rid of
this stuff? Help! thank you :)

Thank you for your help Francis. I'll certainly give
that a good shot.

You can keep "SpamCop" if that's working for you, or open a new email
address.

You might have gotten spyware on your PC. You can use SpyBot or Ad Aware to
eliminate it.

Ad Aware has a free version. Spybot asks for a contribution, but it's not
required.

Judy, you can download a free mailwasher program from the following address:
http://www.mailwasher.net/

It shows all incoming mail before it downloads to your computer, so you can
reject the ones you don't want. It also bounces mail back to the sender to
tell them there is no one at this address

Judy,

I had a similar problem with someone looking at porn with my computer. I
was later bombarded with about 30-40 e-mails daily about the craziest porn
stuff.

If you use Outlook or Outlook Express, you can set up mail filters. ie, you
can make it delete mail that meet certain conditions. For instance, you
could get Outlook to delete mail messages that contain porn words in the
subject line, or in the message body, etc.

For the first while when I was receiving porn mail, I would first look for
key words in the subject line to the message body that would indicate that
the message was related to porn. I would then add these key words to my
"Delete Porn" message rule. If I could not find a key word, then I would
simply add the sender to my "Block sender" list.

After about 2 weeks of this, my mail filters are reasonably good. Out of
the 40 messages I get per day, it usually stops over 35 messages from
getting through.

To set this up in Outlook Express, go to TOOLS --> MESSAGE RULES --> MAIL.
Then hit NEW, and follow the prompts to set a new rule. Or go to
MESSAGE --> BLOCK SENDER.

Another solution is to change your e-mail address.

I hope this helps!

Bouncing via mailwasher is not recommended at all.
99.9999% of all spam has a false, spoofed or borrowed
email address. This means that the wrong person gets
a "bounce", or a distant mail server has to deal with an
invalid address.

Also, if it *is* valid, bouncing is not done immediately -
so the spammer still knows it's a valid email.

Mailwasher should ONLY be user to delete.

Thank you all for your help and advice :) I decided the
easiest way was to change my email address.
