After I ran ad-aware standard and deleted all the objects
found, I turned off my pc. When next I started it, I
could not log back on to my user site. I re-installed my
system from the back-up disks that came with the
computer. I still get the error message: Precision
Time; Windows Sockets initialization failed. Does anyone
know of this and how it can be rectified?

If you have another XP machine handy you can try this KB. Don't delete any
regkeys without backing them up first
