I am going to reformat my C drive. Can the Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard use my D drive to store items
being transferred rather than having to burn them to a CD?

I ask because I just found out that there is something
wrong with my burner.

Thanks,

Dean Mixon

Hi Dean,

What is D? If it's another partition or hard drive, then sure as long as
sufficient space is available. Just be careful when you do your disk work in
preparation for the new install. You might want to consider doing a repair
install instead, which will preserve your files and settings as is.

Follow these steps to do a repair install:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.

Thanks, Rick

I had never heard of the repair install option
before. My D drive is a separate, large video drive, so
room is not a problem. My Windows is on a Ghost recovery
disk, so my only option is a complete redo. Otherwise
the repair install is definitely what I would do.
