The folder actually holds the details of the files you
have opened in either Word, excel, powerpoint, Access
etc. When you go to Open a file in either of these
applications, if you have opened the same file before,
you will see that it already appears on the open file
menu. The recent folder is where the informatyion for
this has come from. If you want to delete the entries in
the recent folder then by all means do so, it just means
that they will not appear on your word, excel etc, open
file menu the next time you open it. However, as soon as
you open the same folder again it will be placed in the
recent folder once more.

Hope this helps
