I recently tried to install Windows XP in a new system
that previously had W2000. The installation went without
incident, but once it finished the monitor went black. I
restarted the system and the same thing happened just
after the normal startup screens. It looks as if the
system goes into hibernation once it finishes loading XP,
I tried starting in safe mode but the same thing happens.
I wonder if there is a way to disable the hibernation mode
from kicking in automatically? Given the fact that I don't
have a chance to access control panel before the screen
going off.

It is pertinent to mention that the system worked
perfectly under W2000, and before installing windows XP y
formatted the hard disk so as to have a completely new OS
install.
