I am trying to update my BIOs. I downloaded the flash file
from Gateway it says to use a IBM formated disk, which I
don't have. It was suggested eariler to use a DRrdos boot
disk and load the flash file onto that. I did that but
when it starts to boot from a: it says something like
Caldra starting............. then a: light goes out and it
quits working. Can anyone tell me how to make the correct
boot disk. I am using win xp home.

Get a regular 1.44mb floppy disk.
Nothing special about them.
Insert floppy.
Click My Computer, right click 3 1/2 floppy, click Format.
Click MSDOS Boot Disk.
Follow prompts.
Then copy BIOS files to the bootable floppy you just made.
If you see a message about replacing files, agree to it.
Then reboot to floppy, follow prompts and BIOS is flashed.

Do you get a dos prompt? If you did, follow the instructions from the MB web
site on flashing the bios. It usually involves loading the flash utility and
then typing the exact file name of the bios update. If you didn't get a dos
prompt, your floppy disk might be bad or wasn't created properly. Download
the Dr.Dos image again, Double click on the downloaded image file, follow
the prompts.Using a new floppy disk recreate the boot floppy, copy the
necessary files to the disk and boot from the floppy following the MB flash
directions.

Hi there, no I did not get a DOS prompt. After I created
the boot disk with DRrdos and start coping the flash files
tto the disk it stops at the command.com and autoexec.bat
files and says that there are newer ones do you want to
overwrite? I choose yes it makes the file size of these
two files larger. Then when I boot from a: it starts and
that word comes up and it quits.

OK, After downloading the bios update, I see the problem.
Just use a blank formatted floppy, go to C:\cabs\7511821 select all the
files in the folder copy them to the blank floppy. Shutdown and follow the
onscreen prompts.
Make sure you backup the files as per the readme file before doing the
flash.

I found some IBM formated disks at work, I will try
copying the flash files onto this and see if it works when
I get home.
