Hi,

A few days ago my copy of Windows XP home edition began to
slowdown dramatically during one session on it. It
wouldn't shut down as it froze up, so I had to manually
shut it down.

The next morning when I went to boot up my computer XP
wouldn't load up at all. The computer would get past the
memory checking screen fine but then just before the
loading of XP it would lock up and not load at all. All I
could access was the DEL key to the startup.

What is the problem? Is there anyway I can re-install XP
using the first screen?

To reinstall XP, insert the XP installation CD into the CD ROM and wait til
you see a prompt that says [Press any key to boot from CD].

The exact quote above might look a little different but will mention the
same thing in maybe a slightly different syntactical mannerism.

When you see that, press the key it tells you to press, maybe the spacebar.
It should take you into the XP installation procedures.

If you do not see that message above or a similar message, then you'll need
to go into your BIOS and tell it to look at the CD-ROM for a bootup disk.
Make sure the Bootup from CD is placed before Booting up off the hard disk
drive.

Let us know if that helps.
