My xp runs slow, and I suspect it to be a memory problem.
Trying to resolve this, I'm trying to move the pagefile to
d: and e: (separate drives - no partitions);
I do it trough the virtual memory management in
|controlpanel|system|advanced etc.... Everything shows up
perfectly ok, it lets me custom set the pagefile to the
other drives and asks me to reboot.
Machine up and running after reboot, and the pagefile is
still located at the c: root. Puzzled I check the settings
in the virtual memory management; it shows no pagefile on
c: and indicates that the pagefiles are now located on d:
and e:. This also shows in the registry (localmachine. . .
etc. - the same location as clearpagefileonexit).
So I try to delete the pagefile on c: Of course it won't
let me do this via XP, so I try to delete it with the
recovery console (doing attrib -s -h c:\pagefile.sys and
erase c:\pagefile.sys(didn't work) and del
c:'pagefile.sys). But on c:\dir the pagefile.sys does not
exist.
Firing up the computer again, and the pagefile.sys is
located in c:\. Hellbent on removing the file, I shut down
almost all processes and runs a cmd to get to the file. In
the dos shell the c:\pagefile.sys does not exist.
Is there any database explorer uses that might be
corrupted? Any cache that refuses to flush?
Any help would be appreciated 'cause I'm running out of
ideas.

The XP is located on a wd120gb 8mb buffer. The other hdd
are 2 maxtor 80gb and another wd120
They are in turn connected to a fis vc11 mainboard with
768mb unregistered ram (kingston). The cpu is an intelp4
1.4ghz.
Also attached is a soundblaster5.1 card and a nvidia
geforce2 mx400 card, a promise ultra ata 133 tx2 card as
well as a multi firewire/usb card from adaptec/texas
instruments. All drivers are currently up to date, as well
as bios'es flashed. All temperatures are fine (currently
34*c - sunny outside and dark clouds inside)
