Hi there. I have a Linksys router with UPnP, and UPnP
and Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control are
installed on my WinXP SP1 box. Once UPnP and IGDDC were
installed I got the new icon for "Internet Connection"
under Internet Gateway in Network Connections and in the
taskbar as well as the link to my router's config page
through My Network Places.
However, these icons/links disappear and reappear
constantly. This is really annoying and makes it hard to
set up port forwarding using the connection's Advanced
Settings tab when the gateway disappears in the middle of
changing settings. I have looked and heard nothing of
this problem anywhere else.
Let me be clear though, I always stay connected to the
internet, but the icons disappear. In any given minute,
it will appear for maybe 2-15 seconds, and then disappear
for maybe 10-120 seconds or more.
I'd like to know how to fix it or at least if anyone
knows what might be causing it (router not broadcasting
properly? - guessing). Also, what would be the
consequences of this problem? Would all my port settings
that I set up through the gateway's Advanced Settings be
discarded while the icon is not there?
I hope that wasn't too confusing, but it's a very odd
problem. I am current with WindowsUpdate and the router
is a Linksys BEFSR41 with the latest firmware.
