response and lock ups like i'm used to with Windows Xtra

Even though you are a troll, I can say if it is slow on Windows, it will be
faster on Linux. But the determining factor would be usability. If the
system runs fast, does it mean you can do more? How many applications do you
have that will run on Linux? Even if you configure it to run in WINE, what
advantage in fun****ionality does Linux offer? I know you can probably do
anything Windows can do in Linux, but is it easier? I would guess some
things are probably as easy, but what percentage of the average users needs
using Windows XP are as intuitive using Linux? How much is your time worth?
Can you say you can learn and do more on Linux and actually justify Linux
being free as opposed to the worth of your time? Could you learn to be as
proficient on Linux in two hours or four hours when the average income per
hour would be at least $50 on the low end and $100 + average for most wage
earners?
Linux is a great OS, and a viable alternative OS, but is it really better?
Is it cost effective even free of charge? I can see where in certain
enviourments it can be quite effective, but for the average consumer; what
is the overwhelming advantage? The average consumer has a problem
understanding the difference between an OS and a Office suite. Now they are
expected to not only learn a new OS, but they are confronted with using an
Office Suite that is not completely compatible with most widely supported
Office file format.

No argument with any of your response, but if you could
post back and tell us what planet you are on, where
"$100 +" is "...average for most wage earners," I would
appreciate it.

Agreed.

Where did you get that idea from ? For a start, $50 per
hour is no where near the average earnings - it's much,
much less. Certainly in many countries around the world.

Also, the average user *does* understand the difference
between Office and OS - how you can say that is a complete
mystery. Just because a few seem to stumble at that hurdle
in here, does not mean it's average.
