Windows Updates

I have problems with installing some Updates. It was recommended that I do
the following:

C:/windows/system/system32/catroot2

but, since I am very inexperienced PC user, would someone kindly give me
step, by step instructions how to proceed to carry out the above. The
originator of the instructions is not interested in helping.
