View Full Version : 1 NIC, two LANs (home and office) - need two different connections

On the home LAN, I use a router (192.168.1.1) and DHCP and the cable
ISP's DNS servers are specified
On the office LAN, I use a router (192.168.0.1) and a static IP and a
different set of DNS servers must be specified

So, I need to set up and switch between TWO LAN connections, depending
on what location I am in. With different NIC cards, one for home and
one for the office, this should not be a problem. HOWEVER, my two NIC
cards look like the same one to the OS, so XP only lets me have one LAN
configuration. I need two connections configured. I don't want to
change the configuration twice a day when I leave one location and
arrive at the other.

Is Netswitcher the only answer?

You say that your two NIC cards look like the same one to the OS. Do
you mean that XP has created a network bridge between them? If so,
open the Network Connections folder, right click the network bridge
and delete it. That will make the two NIC cards independent of each
other.
