I've been running VS 6.02.3 without any problems since last
September. VS 7 came out shortly after I bought this and
I've seen no need to upgrade.

I've got version 7 running on three systems, all are working
flawlessly.

I've been running Mc Afee VS 7 for about two months. It's Ok here. No
problem. It has found some files with virus (don't remember the virus' name)
and cleaned most of them. Deleted others which were impossible to clean.
Very good. I recommend.

Did you need to get separate licenses, or can you use the same license for
all three machines?

McAfee ran fine on my machine, however... The user interface drove me crazy
and I uninstalled it in preference for Norton. Different strokes...

I purchased one license for each system.

I prefer McAfee user interface because I can set my choices
easier than Norton which seems to only offer default
"protect my computer" menus.
I'm sure Norton can be set to custom modes, but I have not
seen this in a few minutes of working on friends computer
who go Norton with their Dell.

The thing I didn't like about the McAfee trial version that came with my
computer was that it seemed to constantly natter at me. Everytime it found a
virus or downloaded new updates or something it told me about it and would
hang the computer until I clicked "ok" to acknowledge it. Also the trial
version I had insisted on popping up advisory messages a couple of times a
day to tell me things I didn't want to know about what viruses are current in
the world. Norton just works quietly in the background for me.
It seemed unlikely to me that the "real" McAfee version would be this
hyperactive so I contacted their support people to figure out how to shut off
all the messages. Basically the tech said he didn't know anything about the
trial version which comes from some other division of McAfee and I'd have to
talk to Dell. Wrong answer. So figured it was just easier to go back to
Norton which I've personally always been happy with.

Thanks for the good info, I'm gonna try McAfee. Anyone using it on multiple
systems without a seperate license? I'm reluctant to license my
7-year-old's computer....
Thanks

You can look on www.pricewatch.com and find McAfee version 6
and 7 at low prices. Or buy when they have cash register
discounts and rebates, I've never paid out more than $5 net
for a new retail box.
