Completing the Dial Up Network wizard there is an
indication that the modem is unavailable on COM1. The
modem is installed and can be communicated to through the
device manager. Tried default driver, a XP comp modem.
Tried configuring the modem to COM2 but the Dail Up
Network still indicates modem unavailable on COM1. The
machine was installed with 1a disk and the next 160MB of
updates downloaded from the net via a LAN connection. The
Dial Up Network connection has been attempted to be
created post network connection and updates!

Hope some one can inform me as to what has happened.

Cheers Dave

Are you getting a numeric error code. 633, perhaps?

Ken, if you happen to lok at this post again we have found
the cause to this issue. The OEM XP Pro SP1a installation
disk has the bug. We had dropped back to a SP1 copy and
Dail Up Networking was operational. There is a problem
with SP1a. Thanks for you response. Trying to obtain
trouble free copy from local MS agent in Australia.
Running Intel 865 CS. David
