View Full Version : Got me stumped

I have a network of 4 machines and we added 2 machines to
the network. We transfered a couple machine positions,
but with a lap top, all connections have been verified a
good and working. I have one machine (which acted as the
company server - everyones files are on it) that has a
full connection (hardware tests good), has a full ISP
(internet) connection, but when I try to log onto the
network I get an error saying it is unaccessable. The
setup wizard goes to completion without an error and the
machine can be seen by others on the network, but no one
can access the computer. I can ping out from the machine
to the others on the network, but they can not ping my
machine.

Got any ideas? We are stumped. Probably over looking
something simple and stupid, but our guru brains can't
figure this one out.

The firewall is at the VPN Router. It is a 4 port
Linksys router. The other three machines are all able to
see each other and the machine on a "network" listing,
but no one is able to access it, nor can this machine see
the network nor access anyone.

Can you copy and paste the results of "ipconfig /all" on each machine to the
newsgroup?

Corrupted installs of 3-rd party firewalls or virus scanners sometimes cause
these symptoms. Have you ever had one installed on the machine?

My God.... How stupid we become!!!!

Dummy me, after hearing about this msblast thing I went
to my virus scanning program and looked at the settings.
I have never enabled the "personal" firewall setting it
has and even though I don't remember clicking on it
yesterday to set it, I must have. I looked at every
other thing because we also felt that it was a firewall
issue (after we corrected a nasty reg error caused by an
oh so wonderful Canon F50 printer... what a pain that
was).

As the saying goes... the best troubleshooter is the
partner that walk into your office as your are screaming
because you can't find a code error and just as you
explain your problem, a little light goes off inside your
head before they can say a word!

Thanks for the virus scan hint.... would have never
thought of looking there since I knew I had not enabled
that part of the program ever before.

ALl 6 are up and running and my team is back at work!

Thanks!
