There are 3 types of messenger in the services files.
windows messenger, msn messenger and msc messenger. I
read that if I'm getting alot of those pop-up messages
that try to get you to buy their product so you won't get
anymore of these pop-ups, that I can stop msc messenger
if I don't need it . I have norton's live update. Does
the updater use msc? Thanks if any help. Jeanie

No. To stop those pop-ups install a firewall or enable the Windows XP
firewall. See "Description of the Windows XP Internet Connection
Firewall" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320855). You can also
disable the Messenger service in the Control Panel > Administrative
Tools > Services. This does not have anything to do with the
MSN/Windows Messenger software.
