View Full Version : File Search Utility in Windows Explorer

In older versions of Windows, I could search files by
date, content, etc. Once the matching files were found, I
was able to copy them and paste them somewhere else.

With XP, the search utility offers the same options. But I
cannot copy the list of matching files and paste them
somewhere else. When I try to paste them elsewhere, an
error comes up regarding "Could not copy source file," or
something to that effect.

Did Windows XP do away with this handy feature, or is
there a switch somewhere that will allow me to copy and
paste found files to another folder or drive?

Thanks.

I just did a search and copied and pasted from the list of matched files.
So, it's there but something is preventing you from doing it successfully.
Hard to know with the information provided what the problem might be. First
thing that comes to mind is permissions. Also: is it possible that the
files are open and being written to by another process?
