Failed upgrade to XP Pro

I tried to load nephew's copy of XP Pro which
would'nt load properly. Now on start up it tries to start
XP Pro till I scroll it up to home edition and then
restart which then takes ages to load up. I just want to
dump pro now.

The only way back from Pro to Home is to format and start clean - you cannot
downgrade.
