View Full Version : Duplicate Name Exists on the Network

Dear network gurus,

I am running XP Pro on a home machine that is networked to a Linksys
Switched 2-Port Print Server; also networked is a HP LaserJet printer,
HP Color Inkjet printer, and a Win98SE computer.

Everything was working fine until recently after downloading updates to
my XP machine. I am getting a message when I sign on: "A duplicate name
exists on the network". How do I find out what the duplicate name is
and how do I solve the problem.

Thanks much for your help and expertise.
Dave

Hi Dave,

From a command prompt you can type "nbtstat - n". Look for a record that
shows a status of "Conflict".

Hi Marc,

Sorry it took so long to reply, but I have been out of town.

I issued the "nbtstat -n" command you suggested and all I saw was "Registered",
no "Conflict". I also issued "IPConfig /all" and did not see any conflicts.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks again for your help.
