Download and install Ad Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. It's free for
personal use.
It should get rid of that spyware you seem to have accumulated.
Another good idea is a full antivirus scan with updated signatures - if you
don't have any antivirus, you can download AVG from www.grisoft.com. It's
also free for personal use.

You might want to run the Ad-Aware. It's a free program available at:
http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml
It will scan your system looking for various kinds of spyware and hidden
advertising stuff. At best it may solve your problem entirely. At worst it
will still clean up things for you.
I'd also question what security settings you have set up for IE. Do you have
it set to at least medium? (Tools > InternetOptions > Security) If not, it's
easy for web pages to put executable stuff into your machine which you
probably don't want there.
Good luck...

He could also try SpyBot, also free, which I prefer to Ad-Aware. It also
allows one to 'inoculate' against quite a few (over 200 last time I looked)
common spyware items.
