I went through the upgrade about two weeks ago. I
partitioned my drive to store some old data then did a
full install of XP.
I would recommend you down load all new drivers for all of
your hardware to ensure it runs well with XP. XP will of
course hunt for it's own updates on line.
Also do you have any software that will need to have
patches added to properly run with XP? Down load and save
anything you think you might need.
I don't have experience to offer regarding the dial up
connectoids.
