I have Windows ME. I want to upgrade to Windows XP. Will
this wipe out everything I have on my computer right now,
ie: my preferences for certain settings; my software
programs, etc? How do I make the transition without
significant problems?

Hi Mary,

You can choose to upgrade your Windows ME installation to XP, in which case
your settings and programs will be migrated to Windows XP.

Mary,

When I upgraded from ME to XP I found that I needed driver updates before my
printer and scanner worked. I needed to ditch my Easy Creator CD software
and buy Nero 5.5. It took me three days to sort it all out. Still I am
only a beginner.

Mary

A clean install is highly recommended over an upgrade install with XP. This
will be an option when you start the XP installation.

Use the Upgrade advisor. This will identify any possible incompatibilities
with your installed hardware. You want to make sure that you have already
obtained any updated hardware drivers.

You should be able to go an upgrade by running the XP CD from the
current system, and in Install, continuing with Upgrade. There are a
few precautions - I suggest you read Gary Woodruff's article
