Just moved from windows 2000 pro to windows xp pro.

I'm trying to find the xp quivalent to the repair disk from windows 2k. I
did search help for repair disk and it said to go to backup and when I did
that, the smallest possible backup was to just do the system state and that
is 350 megs!!!!!! thats almost 30 floppies! I even tried doing it onto my
250 meg zip and it doesn't fit.

Is there not something similar to the repaire disk from wondows 2k?

Thanks.

The Windows XP CD itself is bootable and is a Startup Disk.
It has all the necessary tools to repair XP in the event of an
unlikely failure. However, you can make your own bootable
floppy disk if you so desire:

Against Being Unable to Start Windows XP

on "How to Run a Repair Install".

There are several things to do:

System restore (find it at Start - All Programs - Accessories - System
Tools - System Restore) which restores the system including registry
back to the state at which a restore point was made, over a fairly short
period. A new point is made daily, and also on installation of quite a
few software packages. Assume you store up to about 20 points

A run of SFC /SCANNOW
to verify system files and replace any that have been damaged (but
mostly the automatic System File Protection handles that)

A Repair reinstall - Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk, then
boot the XP CD, start Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this stage), then
after the license agreement take 'Repair Installation'. This will
retain your existing software installations and most settings.

The 'Automatic System Restore' feature of NT Backup, as in Win2000
